Karolina Bebop is an artist from Bogotá Colombia, South America.

Bebop’s style is reminiscent of American traditional tattoos in that she uses bold outlines, saturated colors and a limited color palette. However, Bebop often uses illustrative techniques such as dot work and clusters of parallel lines to give her tattoos texture. The US imported exceptional tattoo talent when New Zealand's Erin Chance decided to make Richmond, Virginia her new home. I became a fan of Erin's work, which leans towards the neotraditional, from her time at Auckland's renowned Sacred Tattoo studio, and I'm stoked that Erin will be sharing her talents on the road in North America (and places beyond). I grabbed Erin for a quick email Q &A. Here's how it went down:

First off, when did you officially make the US your home?

I finally got my Green Card right before Christmas 2012, so I've been here just over a year now. Best Christmas present! I'm based in Richmond, VA., but on the road a lot.

Has moving to Virginia had an impact on your work?

A little, mainly what machines I use, etc.. My art has been going through some changes. I'm sure tattoos will follow suit before too long.

Keith Haring Early work

Haring achieved his first public attention with public art in subways. These were his first recognized pieces of pop art. The exhibitions were filmed by the photographer Tseng Kwong Chi. Around this time, "The Radiant Baby" became his symbol. His bold lines, vivid colors, and active figures carry strong messages of life and unity. Starting in 1980, he organized exhibitions in Club 57. He participated in the Times Square Exhibition and drew, for the first time, animals and human faces. That same year, he photocopied and pasted around the city provocative collages made from cut-up and recombined New York Post headlines.In 1981 he sketched his first chalk drawings on black paper and painted plastic, metal and found objects.

By 1982, Haring established friendships with fellow emerging artists Futura 2000, Kenny Scharf, Madonna and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Haring created more than 50 public works between 1982 and 1989 in dozens of cities around the world. His "Crack is Wack" mural, created in 1986, is visible from New York's FDR Drive.He got to know Andy Warhol, who was the theme of several of Haring's pieces including "Andy Mouse." His friendship with Warhol would prove to be a decisive element in his eventual success, particularly after their deaths.

In December 2007, an area of the American Textile Building in the Tribe Ca neighborhood of New York City was discovered to contain a painting of Haring's from 1979.

Cally-Jo is a full time fine artist, soon to be relocating to Manhattan, New York City, working as a full time tattooer and fine artist.

Cally-Jo began her artistic pursuits studying Fine Art at college, experimenting with sculpture and mixed media, where she then received her diploma in Fine Art. She continued her education for a further three years at Winchester School of art, where she began to experiment with the basics of pencil drawing.

What conventions have you worked? What are some of your best convention memories?

I’ve done London, Milan, and NYC multiple times. Best convention memory would have to be watching my friend Big Steve tattoo Lucky Diamond Rich in London.

Opie Ortiz:

Is an American artist specializing in tattoos, pop art and murals. Ortiz is best known for his art featured on Sublime album covers. Murals painted by Ortiz can be found in and around Long Beach.

Opie operated American Beauty Tattoo for approximately 7 years before moving on to open World Famous Tattoo. He now works at Ink Assassins, located in Long Beach, Ca.

Ortiz was also responsible for the "Sublime" tattoo across Bradley Nowell's upper back, which appeared on the cover of the multi-platinum self titled album Sublime, along with the flower art covering the front of the CD.

Would it not be cool to have your tattoos done in gold, silver, platinum or other metals as a unique jewel on your skin? A company in Japan might be starting a new trend.
For the skeptics who would immediate think that this would be some kind of health hazard to inject metal into the skin where it could easily enter the blood stream--you are right. There are no tattoos in the classical sense of the word which includes coloring with gold or other metals.

If you have a design that needs to look metallic, a good tattoo artist would instead use other colors to make it look metallic without directly using gold or silver ink. Such colors would, indeed, be toxic for the body and not something you would want to have lodging inside your skin.
The kind of tattoos are something else. These are not injected into the surface of the skin. Instead they consist of gold or platinum foil applied to the surface of the skin with a new technique developed by a Japanese company which I will present later in this article.
